Sooo it's that time of the year again, and i mean.. NEW HARRY POTTER MOVIE! Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows .. Part 1! Yes, part 1! what a bummer that they split the movie into 2 parts instead of having it EPIC STYLE FOR 5 HOURS! ahem.. anyways..

Watched it on monday, and of course I had to wear something Harry Potter-y to enhance my excitement. And what better way to do it than having it DIY style!
This is my 2nd Harry Potter stencil (you can see my first one here). I chose something more obvious than the last one for the design and it was "Mischief Managed" which is the phrase that the Weasley Twins used to close the Marauder's Map. But then again, I didn't want to look too nerdy with "magical" fonts and all, so I decided to make it as if it's a pop punk band name or something lol and chose an appropriate font for the design. Ok enough with the blabbering that prolly noone will read,.. onto the pics!

yeah initially i had stars in the design but in the end i changed them into lightning bolts instead.

Bought the oversized tshirt at John Little for $5, and i cut the super tight neck..

close up look kinda shows how sloppy my stencil this time is! bleeding everywhere.. Proof that stenciling while watching 30 rocks is somehow not a good idea.

The cutting + stenciling took me about an hour, much faster than my previous harry potter shirt. WHEEE! Mischief managed!

One Day On Earth: A Tourist in Singapore

New short by me! Featuring Irene KW as the tourist girl.

One Day On Earth: A Tourist in Singapore from Marcia Mailoa on Vimeo.

This is for the One Day on Earth 2010 project where the video submitted has to be shot on the date of 10-10-10 or Oct 10, 2010.

The idea for this short is from the fact that although I'm a resident and working in Singapore, I'm still a foreigner here; basically, a tourist. Part-time tourist that is, cos I work on the weekdays so... anyways. And I enjoy going to the tourist ~~traps~~ attractions here like Esplanade and Merlion which are featured in the film.

The film was shot in photomotion style. The initial idea was to have Irene posing like in a typical tourist picture, facing straight to the camera and smiling, for every single shot. But eventually we kinda ditched the monotonous idea and did some fun poses (yet still tourist-y! like peace sign, jump in front of the object, etc) and in the end it came out as a photo-montage of the whole journey. Yes, this film was lacking of planning (I just had the idea for the short just few hours before shooting), but spontaneity rocks and it was fun.

Fun facts:
. it took us 3 hours to shoot the whole thing
. i took about 551 pictures (my forefinger was numb when we're done shooting lol!)

So this is what ive been occupying myself with for the past few weeks. Filling up my sketchbook from The Sketchbook Project. Rather slow progress but I'll finish it in time! *cross fingers*.

Body Worlds sketchbook

I went to Body Worlds & The Cycle of Life exhibition and it was very interesting to see human's internal organ, which i also have but never seen before, and to know what's going on inside my own body. the grossest thing would be the brain, and the prettiest thing was the blood vessel.

I brought my sketchbook with me and thankfully i did, because we weren't allowed to take pictures (and my camera was low bat so....).

Girl molested at Sentosa Siloso Beach 2009 Party

I watched the responses in the video, they disgust me. She deserves to be molested because she wears bikini to a beach party? Come on!! It's just the same argument as "it's her fault that a girl gets raped because she's flirty/wearing short skirt/sexy clothes etc". Well, ok she appears to be drunk in the video, but still.. does it make it ok for the guys to touch her inapropriately? in a public place no less! And she's drunk and helpless. And don't get me started on the people who take videos/photos of the incident.

Sorry, but this boils my blood. I know it's not a sketch post, I just want to get this out of my head, or else I won't function properly today :P

On The Deck

I went to Batam for the weekend, and apparently, we now have new deck at the backyard! Spent the whole sunday morning there, sitting on the "Cleopatra Chair" (lol, i'll post the pic of the chair later), getting some sun because i wasn't feeling well, and did some sketches. Saw a couple of birds.. there were 2 funny birds which walk like chickens, with black feather with white face and a tint of red on their tails.. Apparently they're making a nest somewhere because they took some dried grass.. And 4 small birds with black feather and white chest who did nothing but hang out on the long grass and chirping. The sun was so hot, forcing me to go back inside.

I'm going to watch Lady Gaga tomorrow night!! :D

OK. It's not the best looking doll but i'm very happy with the result! This is my second knitting project only and i'm able to finish it! Wheee!!(actually i wanted to put a link to my first knit project which is the invisible skull scarf, but i lost the post?! or i'd never post it in the first place.. hmm maybe next time then..)

BTW this is still a WIP post, it will be final once i'm done with her sweater :D

Oh finally blogger gets back to normal.

So my (still in progress) teddy bear starts to shape up today. I spent the whole day working on her in front of the TV (so practically i spent my lovely sunday watching TV). I might name her Si Peyang aka Shi Pei *ngasal*. so anyway, onto the pics!

Finished the arms and one leg is in progress.

So far so good. The more i see her face, the better it looks (LOL). I left with one more leg, joint them up, and done! well not really, i still need to do her clothing. Might make the sweater, but if i'm lazy i'd just do a scarf for her. we'll see~

I'm back with knitting! I'm in the process of knitting a teddy bear! This is my 2nd knit stuffs so.. finger cross! It's an over-ambitious project i admit, so hopefully i will finish it. Well, kinda losing my patience now, it's the 5th day and i haven't finish the body parts! I'm doing her right leg now.

So, being a harry potter dork, I *had* to wear something "Potter-y" to ~enhance~ the moment of watching the 6th movie. I decided to make my own harry potter tshirt! yay. After hours and hours of deliberate research and consideration *lol* i decided on something not so obvious, so that it won't be too dorky to wear, you know. I mean, i don't wanna go around the town wearing "Quidditch Team" or "Hogwart" logo on my shirt. i mean, i don't mind, it's just that i prefer not to.

So anyway, to conceal my fangirl-ing (and yet not so) I decided on a place name in Diagon Alley that was frequented by Harry in his 3rd year (when he's staying in Leaky Cauldron), which is.... *drum roll* Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour!!!

And here is the tshirt in all its glory (well not really, it's just seconds after i finished touching up)

Bet noone will realise that i'm refering to a magical parlor. teehee.

This is a last minute design and took me about 3 hours to finish this. And working at night while watching another harry potter movie on tv, i wasn't really concentrating that: 1. I forgot the " 's " after Fortescue and 2. I used american spelling for parlour.

Oh well, all the mistakes are the ones make it more personal~ (excuses, i know)

So that's it. With lack of sleep i went the next day for *THE* movie wearing this tshirt! woohoo!

Semarang Small Sketches

Ok so my semarang trip was already a very long time ago (early feb), but whatever i'll just post them anyway lol. I went back to semarang for my grandparents' golden anniversary, and I got them ~homemade~ gift, which is drawing of them back in the 50s and today. I didn't take pic of it (I forgot! too excited to give them). So anyway here is the closest thing to the final product:

(this is supposed to be them in the 50s. My only reference was a 7x4cm black and white faded picture of them when they were younger. i had to make up the colours, and my mom said it looked nothing like them LOL oh well).

Flowers were everywhere in the house, including roses!

Teehee.. so as we all know, our hero Taufik Hidayat had lost his first match at the olympics to that malaysian dude on 11 aug (the night i watched batman gahh why he had to have his match when i was watching movie! --just fyi, btw--). It's Wednesday afternoon, I just had my lunch, and ugh.. prolly going to go to some department store later when it's not very hot outside to buy some undies hahahahha ok TMI. Anyway, I made this bracelet this morning while watching Ellen on TV. This is my first bracelet actually .. um wait no, it's my second one, so nothing fancy..

Basically what I did was just putting on some charms on the chain and voila! a bracelet!! It's almost magical.

Yesterday I was reading this watercolour book at the library, and the technique that the author used was very interesting to me that I wanted to give it a try. So, at home I grabbed my dusty ol' sketchbook (ga sih..), pencil, and watercolour,.. and a mirror of course... and here are the results!!

OK, so they're kinda failed. The first one looks like I'm drunk and I look so busted. On the second one I don't even recognise my face, and obviously there's too much paint.

Wanted to try more but there's no time because I was almost late for the Emergency Late Night V-day Eve (is there such thing?) Karaoke Session. (Well ok it wasn't emergency, cuman buat bikin keren aja judul acaranya). MWIHIHIHIHI.

So today I went to print out my CNY card to send it to my parents (which will be late but whatever).. just an attempt to get an angpao (hong bao? ang bao? kung pow? omg I'm so funny!!!) so.. on to the card!

The front side has the illustration i did, and the back side is just lame gradation thing with my name on it. I did my own envelope, and it's red!! (because I don't have any other colour)

Oh, so handmade.

Another recipient of this card was YX. I printed out the card at home just before I went to his house (for CNY lunch thing). Supposedly gave 1 too for Codename Emo Boy because he held a CNY party too, but I forgot to print lol whatever.

OK, 1 whole post dedicated to 1 card. I didn't show my previous christmas cards (only put up the illustrations) because I forgot to take the pictures and udah keburu di send gituw.. mwihihihi..
